چکیده

Dynamic breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) commonly acquires T1and T2-weighted images. Joint inspection of both sequences in particular allows to distinguish between benign cyst-type and malignant lesions. However, in routine diagnostics both images are regarded independently, and immediate correlation is prevented by patient motion and tissue deformations. Differences in resolution and intensity distribution prevent a co-registration by established breast registration techniques. Instead, we propose to employ a deformable registration method that takes such differences into account. Accuracy of the method was confirmed through visual inspection and landmark-based assessment, indicating an average registration accuracy of 1.74 mm. We demonstrate how the proposed technique facilitates a joint visualization of both MRI-sequences, thereby offering valuable diagnostic support.

Nonrigid Medical Image Registration by Finite-Element Deformable Sheet-Curve Models

Image-based change quantitation has been recognized as a promising tool for accurate assessment of tumor's early response to chemoprevention in cancer research. For example, various changes on breast density and vascularity in glandular tissue are the indicators of early response to treatment. Accurate extraction of glandular tissue from pre- and postcontrast magnetic resonance (MR) images requ...

Hierarchical alignment of breast DCE-MR images by groupwise registration and robust feature matching.

PURPOSE Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) shows high sensitivity in detecting breast cancer. However, its performance could be affected by patient motion during the imaging. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to correct patient motion by deformable registration, before using the DCE-MRI to detect breast cancer. However, deformable registration of DCE-MR image...

Deformable registration for quantifying longitudinal tumor changes during neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

PURPOSE To evaluate DRAMMS, an attribute-based deformable registration algorithm, compared to other intensity-based algorithms, for longitudinal breast MRI registration, and to show its applicability in quantifying tumor changes over the course of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS Breast magnetic resonance images from 14 women undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy were analyzed. The accuracy of...

Magnetic resonance imaging of feline eye

The purpose of this study was to investigate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the normal feline eyeand optic nerves using T1-weighted and T2-weighted images. A total of 6 healthy female domestic short haircats age 2-2.5 years and weighing 3.2 ± 0.4 kg were selected. Magnetic resonance imaging data werecollected using GEMSOW (Philips) at a magnetic field strength of 1.5 T. Dorsal, sagittal, a...

A Method for Registering Diffusion Weighted Magnetic Resonance Images

Diffusion weighted magnetic resonance (DWMR or DW) imaging is a fast evolving technique to investigate the connectivity of brain white matter by measuring the self-diffusion of the water molecules in the tissue. Registration is a key step in group analysis of the DW images that may lead to understanding of functional and structural variability of the normal brain, understanding disease process,...
